Animal Care Assessment

The swine Animal Care Assessment has been designed as an educational and assessment tool for producers to track the welfare of animals on
their farms, independent of the production system. Coupled with the external verification process, the program can be used to provide assurance of on-farm animal welfare.

The following ressources will assist producers in implementing an animal care assessment that will help manage animal care on the farm and demonstrate this to customers.

Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs (2014)

This Code of Practice will play an important role in the pork industry’s ongoing efforts to assess animal care on Canadian pig farms. The Code will guide the review and update of the Canadian Pork Council’s ACA program.
