EXPORTS

  • Canadian pork has seen a +5.8% YTD increase in exports to top 5 countries
  • Fresh and frozen cuts are up slightly, +7.25% and +6.35% respectively. Although offal exports have seen a growth in demand of +45.7% YTD

United States:

  • Exports to the US are down -5.3% YTD
  • Rising U.S supplies have put pressure on Canada’s number #1 market  

Mexico:

  • Exports to Mexico have increased +9.7% YTD

TPP:

  • The TPP11 members have agreed to continue negotiations in several areas within intent of signing a deal in 2018. Canadian exports would benefit significantly from an agreement with Japan as well as other growing pork markets in Asia.

  • Live hog exports were down in August for both feeder and slaughter hogs, approximately 30,000 fewer were exported than the same time last year.
